Applications for the second cohort of the Africa Data Hub Community Journalism Fellowship (2022-23) will open in August 2022.


  • What is the Africa Data Hub Community Journalism Fellowship

The Africa Data Hub Community Journalism is a fellowship which aims to improve the coverage of under-reported issues in local communities across Nigeria and focuses on potential solutions with lasting impact on effective public service delivery and grassroot development.


  • What do ADH Community Journalism Fellows receive?

The fellows will participate in a Data Journalism Bootcamp that will provide capacity building training on advanced investigative, data storytelling and mapping techniques. Journalists will also learn how to source, analyze and visualize data in engaging and compelling ways.


The fellowship will provide a grant sum of up to $2,000 per fellow and advisory sessions with mentors will be offered to build their journalistic skills.


The fellowship will provide editorial and technical support such as data research and analysis, data visualizations, infographics, and mapping for the stories produced by the fellows.


  • What type of stories will qualify for the ADH Community Journalism Fellowship?

The programme will prioritize stories deep-diving into community health challenges, causes of hunger and extreme poverty, and more importantly stories showing structural barriers women and girls face.


  • What do I need to do to apply to the ADH Community Journalism Fellowship?

All applicants must complete an online application on the ADH Community Journalism Fellowship website, in addition to filling in an application form, you will also need to:

– Pitch a Story Idea

– Upload your CV

– Upload a letter or email from the editor of a publication who is interested in publishing your story.


  • Does the Fellowship have an age limit?

The Fellowship has no lower or upper age limits; however, all applicants must be able to demonstrate at least 2 years of experience in reporting and investigating development issues relating to health, education, agriculture, gender, and environment among others.


  • If I have previously applied, may I apply again?

If you have applied for previous cohorts, you are welcome to apply again.
